Great Things for Families to Do in West Cork

West Cork is a great day our for all the family.   There are so many family friendly and safe places to go it can be hard to choose.  But if you have to, try these:

1. Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf Rosscarbery

A fabulous day out for all the family with 5 amazing attractions including adventure golf, the crazy maze, Ireland’s largest maize maze and the tasty treats of the Smugglers Rest Cafe. 


2. The Warren Beach Rosscarbery

With beautiful views of the surrounding hills and watched over by life-guards, the Warren beach slopes gently into the sea and is perfect for young children.   When the tide is coming in over the sun baked sand it is the warmest spot in the west.

3. Baltimore Castle

If you are in West Cork its pirate history is never far away.   As well as the pirate caves around the coast, Dún na Séad Castle boasts its own history and a fascinating account of the sack of Baltimore.  Enjoy great views of the surrounding islands while exploring 800 years of blood-curdling history. 

4. Lagoon Activity Centre

 

In a secluded lake at the heart of Rosscarbery , the Lagoon activity centre offers a safe haven for a happy afternoon of paddling in kayaks or pedalo boats.  Pop in to Rosscarbery village afterwards for ice creams and snacks, or call in to the Celtic Ross Hotel for a slice of west cork comfort.

 

 5. The Model Railway Village Clonakilty

great way to explore West Cork is to see it from the air!  Visit the Model Village to see reproductions of your favourite West Cork towns in miniature, joined up by a working railway track.  Don’t forget to have tea in the railway coach at the centre, and then take the choo choo for a ride around nearby Clonakilty town. 

 

6. Sherkin Island

Just ten minutes by boat from Baltimore, Sherkin Island boasts a number of stunning beaches and a safe place to walk and explore. Bring a picnic or pop into the Jolly Roger or Murphys of Sherkin for lunch and drinks.
